Berkeley High School 1985 Womens Crew

Although the season got off to a slow start following a change in coaching staff, the Berkeley High Women's Crew team is confident that the season will go well. Kathy Moiller, the coach for the past three years, was replaced by Sue Dougherty in December. The team has begun training hard in preparation for the San Diego Crew Classic which peaks the season. Running stadium stairs and the Fire Trail, in addition to the morning workouts at Lake Merritt are some of the things which keep the girls busy.

They ought to be strong enough to defend the title they held down there for the past two years,and this years competition will be tough. Also, the race length has doubled from 1000 to 2000 meters, adding a new challenge. The four Bay Area teams that BHS races are the Oakland Strokes, Pacific Rowing Club, Los Gatos Rowing Club, and Marin Rowing Club; all of which will be tough to beat this season. Fundraising is not as extensive this year, as the team plans to stay home for Nationals.
