Typical Race Week
For a Saturday Race
THE WEEK BEFORE A RACE
Between four days to a week before the race, the pasta feed coordinator will send out an email with the location of the upcoming pasta feed, directions if necessary, and food assignments. Pasta feeds are essential team meetings and attendance by the whole team is required. Parents are not included at pasta feeds except as volunteers. The evening pasta feeds generally run from 6:30-8:00.
The food committee will call and email parents who have volunteered to bring the race food and will coordinate the delivery of food. Parents will be notified where to deliver the race food.
ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT, an email with additional instructions will go out to the team. It is likely the race order will not be finalized by the Wednesday before the race. Event schedules will be available at the race course.
FRIDAY, all teams will have practice at JLAC after school. The teams will have a light water practice and then will load the boats onto the trailer.
PASTA FEEDS
Parents will drop prepared food off at pasta feed locations before the pasta feed or when dropping kids off. Parents will pick team members up at 6:00 at JLAC and take them to the pasta feed locations. Parents will pick kids up promptly at 8 pm and kids must go straight home and to bed early.
SATURDAY
Carpools will pick team members up in time to arrive at the race course by the coaches and coxswain meeting at 7:30. Directions and maps to the race courses are on the website. Team members must have their uniforms and layers for a variety of weather conditions. Racing will start at about 8 am and usually goes to about 2. Team members may not leave the race course until all boats have been reloaded and the team has been dismissed by the coaches.
Parents should remember to pack food, folding chairs and clothing layers for races.
Parents drive the team members back to the boathouse at JLAC to unload, rerig and return boats to the boathouse. The day is usually over by about 5 pm.
