Collegiate Crew Recruiting Fair for High School Class of 2012

in

Event for Parents & High School Seniors (to be). (You must have completed your academic junior year)

California State University, East Bay, Hayward CA

Saturday, July 23th -- 1:00pm to 5:30pm

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS and their parents are invited to attend the 3nd annual college recruiting fair at CSU East Bay in Hayward. (NCAA rules restrict attendance to those starting their senior year in the fall.) The purpose of this event is to provide Bay Area high school rowers and their parents an opportunity to meet coaches from numerous colleges across the country, and learn about a wide range of academic, rowing and financial aid programs. This is an excellent opportunity to make one-on-one contact with coaches. This is the third year and 22 colleges attended to make presentations and talk to athletes and their families. I have been running the same event in Seattle for 14 years and expect more schools in California this year.

Program

Introduction: Short presentation on NCAA issues and the recruiting process and a brief overview of college rowing

Presentation: Coaches are given 3 minutes to introduce themselves and for a short overview of their school and rowing programs.

Exchange: 2-4 hour period for individual discussion between coaches & athletes (and parents).

Schools that attended last year include: Northeastern University, Oregon State University, San Diego State University, Syracuse University, UCLA, Stanford University, Princeton University, University of California at Berkeley, University of San Diego, University of Tennessee, University of Texas, University of Virginia, University of Washington, University of Wisconsin, USC, St. Mary’s College, University of California at Davis

Space is limited and is on a first come first served basis

URGENT: Thursday update on this weekend's regatta

in

From Coach Lindsey, Thursday afternoon:

The race this weekend will be on Saturday ONLY. This means novice and varsity rowers will all be competing on Saturday. Please note the following details/changes:

  1. All pasta feeds will be held on Friday evening after boat loading (details TBA)
  2. Rowers who are not competing this weekend should still attend the pasta feeds and are welcome to come to the event to see the races. Unlike other races, it is NOT mandatory that they attend this race, or come for the whole day. We will send out a  schedule as soon as we receive the updated version, so that folks can come out to see the BHS races.
  3. All rowers should be going to JLAC tomorrow afternoon ready to practice and load boats (4:15-6:45pm @ JLAC). Afterwards, all rowers will attend the pasta feeds.
  4. All competing this weekend should arrive at Lake Merced @6:45am on Saturday. The coxswain meeting will start at 7am.

Please contact your coaches with any questions or concerns.

Notice from Coach Lindsey (sent Wednesday afternoon):

The schedule for this weekend is TENTATIVE.  There is a good chance that, due to weather concerns, all races will be moved to SATURDAY.  The coaches apologize for any inconvenience; we will let you know more as soon as we receive more information.  At this point all rowers and coxswains should be prepared to race either Saturday or Sunday. If you know you have a conflict, please talk to your coaches individually. Obviously this will also have an impact on pasta feeds.  Again, we'll let everyone know when Pacific Rowing Club has made a decision about the schedule.

An updated practice schedule will be sent out when know what the 'final' race schedule is.

We currently know the following:

Wednesday- normal (Novice Boys and Novice Girls @ JLAC, Varsity Boys @ BHS)
Thursday- CHANGE (Varsity Girls @ JLAC, Varsity and Novice Boys TBA)
Friday- CHANGE (ALL @ JLAC for Boat Loading- (4:15-6:45pm for all )
